Dawat translates as “feast” - this dish is mostly prepared for weddings and other celebrations. Tender chicken breast is cooked in yoghurt, fried onion and spices with almonds, chironji and cashews. The surprise ingredients here are soya sauce and tomato sauce, a result of Hyderabadi bawarchis’ (master chefs) fascination with Chinese flavours. The end product - that spicing, those savoury notes, the creaminess of nuts and yoghurt - is a fascinating combination of two cuisines unlike any other.
